Do you know what is it like to hear a kid say "look mom we get to use real toilet paper now"?
Or watch another kids face lite up and say, "this is so good mom, we get to eat today".
These are just a couple of examples of the reality that I have gotten to experience in my four plus years of volunteering at Hope Helps TN (HHTN) food pantry.
For me it puts the real meaning of love of the Utmost High to be a part of a close knit family of volunteers that are committed to doing something that puts real change into a kids' life along with hundreds of other people's lives each day.
There is a warm feeling that comes from knowing you have been part of whether a person gets to eat or not. I guess the reason that I feel so good and strong about helping others is that I know what it feels like to grow up poor and need help.
With seven kids and a father whom was not able to work because of major heart trouble, we found ourselves needing help often.
Lots of folks receive help at HHTN through no fault of their own. Just a little help until they can get back on their feet again. We enable some older folks to be able to buy their medications by giving them food and reducing their food costs.
I get a warmth in my soul when I hug my daughter. HHTN puts that same warm feeling in lots of folks heart by providing them warm food and clothing for their loved ones.
Should you find yourself wanting to experience what God has done and continues doing at HHTN, Volunteer!
We need you.
You won't get paid money but the experience will be priceless.
