Supporting Youth Changemakers

Connections of Hawkins and Hancock County, TN is sponsoring the #YESchallenge to support youth-led projects that have a meaningful impact on the lives of older adults in our community. The goal of the YES Challenge is to amplify and support youth changemakers who are making a positive difference in the community. Projects are youth-designed, youth-led.

Who can participate?

Hawkins/Hancock County youth who are in Middle or High School can apply.

 

You must apply as a team of at least three (3) youth and partner with a nonprofit, service group, charity or church.

The video

  • Name of Your Team

  • Nonprofit, service group, charity, or church you will work with

  • Description of your project and how it makes a meaningful impact in the lives of older adults

  • What inspired your team to do this project

  • How you will use the $500

  • The video must not exceed 3 minutes.

  • Remember to be creative and have fun!

  • NOTE: Projects must be based in Hawkins or Hancock Counties

How to submit?

Evaluation & selection

  • A 4-member youth judges panel will select the winning videos.

  • Winners will be announced June 24, 2022.

  • Projects must be completed by December 31, 2022.

  • Winner videos will be featured on the Volunteer Connection website and social media.

Rules and Regulations

 

Eligibility:

  • The competition is open to Hawkins or Hancock County youth who are in middle or high school. You must apply as a team of 3 or more youth and select a community partner (nonprofit, service group, or church) to work with on your project.

 

Video Criteria:

  • The video should not exceed three minutes.

  • The videos must be uploaded to the online submission portal.

  • Only videos submitted by May 25, 2022 will be considered for voting.

  • Videos that are offensive to an individual or an organization or that have a negative, rude or abusive tone will not be accepted.

  • You agree to all the terms & conditions of participation.

  • You must have permission from a parent/guardian to upload the video.

Contest period and Evaluation criteria:

  • Videos must be submitted by May 25, 2022 at 11:59 pm. Late submissions will not be accepted.

  • A 4-member youth judges panel will select the winning videos.

  • Winners will be announced June 24, 2022.

  • Projects must be completed by December 31, 2022.

  • Winner videos will be featured on the Volunteer Connection website and social media.

 

Disbursement of funds:

  • The $500 award will be made payable to the team leader. The team leader is expected to report on how the funds were used. 

 

Reporting:

  • Winning Teams will be asked to report on their completed project within seven days of completing the project and no later than January 7, 2023.

  • Your team will be asked to submit a <3-minute video describing how your project made a difference in the lives of older adults.

  • Connections may publish your team's work with your name and use it as it may deem necessary.

 

 

Privacy and intellectual property:

  • The Submission must be an entirely original work created by youth and must have all necessary rights in and to the Submission.

  • Participants must grant to Connections the right to use any video submitted as part of the Challenge, in whole or in part, in any way, including without limitation, to reproduce, edit, modify, translate, distribute, publish and broadcast the video without compensation.

  • Participants, to protect their own privacy and the privacy of others, must not include personal information including, but not limited to, phone numbers, social insurance numbers, banking information, resumes or email addresses in their video. Any videos that appear to contain such personal information will not be accepted.

 

Terms and Conditions:

“By participating in the YES Challenge, all participants give the rights and permissions for use, reproduction and dissemination of their videos to Connections for use on their website and social media, in audiovisual, print and electronic media as well as television. Videos could also be part of a video playlist for possible use in publications, for advertising and resource mobilization or any other purpose other than commercial purposes. Participants ensure that Connections has the necessary permission of the persons who appear in the video. Videos that do not respect the rights or dignity of others will be disqualified immediately. Videos submitted through this contest will be used respecting the identity and integrity of the participants by including the respective credits each time the video is used.”
